    All unpowered boats, including kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddleboards, must display a valid launch permit or current boat registration when using Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) or Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) lakes and access areas.

  • Personal Flotation Device (PFD) Requirements

    A U.S. Coast Guard-approved wearable PFD must be on board for each person on all boats, including paddlecraft. Additionally, all persons must wear their PFD when on boats under 16 feet in length from November 1 through April 30.

  • Boating Under the Influence (BUI)

    Operating any watercraft, including paddlecraft, while under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly prohibited in Pennsylvania. Penalties for BUI are severe and can include fines, imprisonment, and loss of boating privileges.
